There’s no doubting the beauty of Cesky Krumlov. It’s a magnificently preserved southern bohemian Czech town that draws thousands of tourists every year. The medieval architecture is incredible, the river that runs through it is picture perfect, and the narrow cobblestone streets provide a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
There’s a reason why so many websites and publications have voted Cesky Krumlov as one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful town in Europe. But could it be too perfect? It was ironic that during our stay a movie was being shot in the town. Often we’d see hundreds of actors and extras wandering the streets in period costume making their way from one set to the next. It’s almost as though Cesky Krumlov has been purposely built as a movie set, rather than simply providing a natural setting for a feature film.
You could easily see all of Cesky Krumlov in a day, which is why bus and train loads of tourists are transported in and out from Prague or another city in close proximity on the same day. Arriving mid-morning, wandering the streets, enjoying lunch, wandering around some more, then heading back to wherever you’ve come from is a great way to spend the day. In fact, it’s almost the perfect way to experience Cesky Krumloc, much like the town itself.
