After being dicked around by our Tuk Tuk driver late at night, we were very relieved to walk up the steps of the Kesar Hertiage Guest House in Jodhpur.
The family owned and run hotel is ideally located on the edge of the forte and only a short walk to the busy city-centre. It is hidden away down some narrow streets, in a quiet little corner only accessed by foot. The rooms are extremely spacious with ours consisting of an enormous four posted bed (so big pillows were added as the mattress wasn’t big enough to fill the bed frame), a desk, occasional chair and a roomy bathroom.
It was decorated with restraint, was very clean, featured good Wi-Fi and had a very quiet, efficient air conditioning unit! The shower pressure was brilliant and had enough hot water to have two long showers! Everything we required for our one night stay in Jodhpur.
Room service was available from the rooftop restaurant which served delicious traditional Rajasthani food as well as international cuisine. While the food was a little slow to come out of the kitchen, we were impressed once it had arrived. Chris even suggested the brothers had cooked up the best Indian meal he had eaten. Big call, I know! There is also a lovely view across the rooftops of neighbouring houses and hotels and to the wall of the forte positioned on the hill above.
The owners were extremely friendly and offered assistance from ordering taxi’s to booking a range of tourist activities. After checking out, they were happy for us to leave our bags whilst we went sightseeing and use a spare room and bathroom at our leisure before we caught our train.
One night wasn’t enough in this hotel and we would have gladly stayed for a few more. The service was great, the rooms were pleasant and the location was ideal. Worth a try if you are in Jodphur or make sure you have a bite to eat the restaurant if you are staying close by.
