Our review of Udaipur’s heritage hotel, Aashiya Haveli

The traditional hotel Aashiya Haveli The traditional hotel Aashiya Haveli

This traditional Indian hotel, Aashiya Haveli, is situated on the eastern bank of the beautiful Lake Pichhola, one of Udaipur’s main attractions. We arrived at the hotel early, just as the staff were also getting there and we were prepared to be told we couldn’t check in until later in the day. Surprisingly, our room was ready and the very helpful and welcoming gentlemen carried our bags up to the 4th floor (no lift) before showing us around the intimate boutique hotel.

The large wooden doors of the hotel entrance opened into a very pleasant, traditional courtyard which the building wrapped around. It was a really love entrance and nice to have such a quiet tranquil place to step into after being in the hustle and bustle of India’s streets. And it was extremely clean and well presented!

Our room, although it didn’t look as finished and luxurious as the images online, was spacious and decorated with restraint. It was flooded with light and had lovely old features of doors, windows and marble floors. The bathroom was a large wet room, ideal as the water from the open shower sprayed everywhere!

There were really no facilities of a comfortable hotel (i.e TV, desk, iron, fridge, kettle, phone) but it was a pleasant room to stay in minus the very loud and not very efficient air con which Chris referred to as the Boeing 747. There was no Wi-Fi in the rooms, but you could get reception in the courtyard and foyer lounge area.

The roof terrace, which was located a few steps up from our room, boasted an impressive uninterrupted view of the famous Lake Pichola. It was a beautiful spot to enjoy a pure vegetarian continental breakfast priced at 175 rupees ($AU3.10) per person. It is also a lovely place to venture off from to see the cities evening lights, in particular the exclusive 5-star Lake Palace Hotel made famous by James Bond.

Being solely owned and run by the original family, you can tell they take pride in the hotel and want to ensure you have a great stay. It has a very good vibe and is definitely the place to stay if you visit Udaipur and are travelling on a budget.

  1. Excellent ! Your review of the heritage hotel in Udaipur can be rated as the best because it is sticking to the reality and can be taken as guidelines while booking a heritage hotel. The odds and evens of the property are nicely mentioned never letting your balance to exaggeration or false praise. A review of any property should be based on above grounds because it is going to affect the flow of visitors to the property in future.
